China's Cyberspace Administration and other departments announced that three generative-AI services providing on-device model capabilities on mobile phones have completed filing, including one named YOYO Claw. The filing was carried out under the Interim Measures for the Management of Generative AI Services, which require providers of generative-AI services with public-opinion or social-mobilization attributes to file or register through local cyberspace authorities.
Our takeFile the trend, not the product. On-device filing entries are starting to appear as their own line item in China's monthly lists. Running models locally changes the privacy and connectivity story, since data can stay on the phone, but it does not change the compliance story, because on-device services still need a filing number. Watch whether Chinese phone makers treat these filings as a selling point or a quiet formality.
