Meta announced (Oct 13, 2026) new AI-powered tools that let people shape what they see in Facebook Feed and Reels by stating their interests in their own words. A feature called 'Your algorithm', found in the three-dot menu on posts, lets users add and manage the topics they want to see. Meta is also adding richer feedback prompts: after tapping 'Interested' or 'Not interested', it may ask follow-up questions so users can describe in freeform text what they want more or less of, with recommendations updating in real time. Meta says large language models can now incorporate the interests, context and intent behind natural language, creating 'an algorithm you can actually talk to' that adapts within a session by blending freeform text with existing engagement signals. The three-dot menu was also redesigned for easier access.
Our take'Talk to your algorithm' is a neat pitch, but the structural change is the point: freeform text is now an explicit ranking input, not just inferred behaviour. That hands users more control -- and hands Meta a new self-declared signal to blend with engagement data. Whether the text actually outweighs the engagement loop is unverifiable from outside; historically, what users say they want and what keeps them scrolling diverge.
