Alibaba Cloud's official blog published a technical post on October 16 describing 'Fast tier', a new mode in its Qoder AI coding suite. The post says Fast tier brings time-to-first-response down from 8 seconds to 3 seconds and cuts the credit-consumption multiplier from 1.1 to 0.8. It is available on Qoder Desktop (version 0.4.4 or later), Qoder IDE, the JetBrains plugin and the CLI (1.1.70 or later), for both personal and enterprise users in China and international markets. The post says an internal analysis found command execution makes up a large share of messages, quick edits about 9.6%, and explicit requests to hurry about 26.9%, and it frames Fast tier around three cases: running a command, interactive tasks that need continuous feedback, and well-scoped tasks like format conversion or translation. It links the move to a broader wave of 'Flash' models such as DeepSeek V4 Flash and Qwen 3.8 Flash.
Our takeEvery coding assistant is now in a race it cannot win on raw capability alone, so latency becomes the product. Cutting the wait from eight seconds to three is the kind of change users feel more than a benchmark point — and charging fewer credits for it is a clearer competitive move than any leaderboard ranking.
